October will be time family fun in Philly, because that's when the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program is bringing 14 extraordinary artists from around the world to Philadelphia for Open Source: Engaging Audiences in Public Space, a groundbreaking outdoor exhibition of temporary, site-specific, and kid-friendly art. Learn about abstract art from MOMO, check out cool skateable sculptures by Jonathan Monk, explore a playground designed by Sterling Ruby, and so much more.
Kids will not want to miss the art-making workshops with MOMO, which will take place on October 4 at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and on October 10 at the Franklin Institute. These fun hands-on activities are ideal for kids of all ages. MOMO and students in our art education department will teach you how to create beautiful abstract art!
Do you and your family love exploring the city? Our tours program has got you covered with a series of special Open Source tours that will take you all over Philadelphia. On Sundays throughout October, Open Source curator Pedro Alonzo and Mural Arts’ own Jane Golden will lead tours of the exhibition, and we’ll have a variety of other tours throughout the month. Our tours are perfect for families or individuals who enjoy art and exploration, whether you’re from Philly or visiting from out of town.
But we have a full plate of events planned in October around Open Source. Click here to learn more.
